Dr. Ejaz Hussain is the CEO and Co-Founder of LeafyColl Ltd, a Cambridge-based biotechnology company developing next-generation structural biomaterials using engineered plant systems. His work focuses on harnessing plants as scalable manufacturing platforms for recombinant proteins that can replace carbon-intensive and petrochemical-derived materials used across advanced manufacturing industries. 

Ejaz’s vision is to establish a new generation of sustainable, programmable biomaterials where proteins act as precision building blocks for fibres, membranes, composites, and other high-performance material systems. His work sits at the intersection of synthetic biology, materials science, and AI-enabled biomanufacturing, supporting the transition towards low-carbon manufacturing infrastructure and the emerging “Protein Age” of materials innovation.
