Panel: The UK Metamaterials Landscape: Realising Materials Without Compromise
Thursday, 25 June 2026
Metamaterials are 3D structures which gain their properties from their structure of meta-atom elements, rather than solely from their constituent materials. The collective effect of the meta-atoms results in properties that cannot be achieved conventionally with individual constituent materials. In this discussion members of the EPSRC UK Metamaterials Network leadership team will introduce the concept of metamaterials including examples of metamaterials across the TRL range. We will showcase the diversity of applications for metamaterials and highlight the needs for Advanced Materials and Metrology in the development of commercial metamaterials-enabled products. We will discuss the current status of metamaterials R&D in the UK, and highlight future opportunities to engage in this growing industry.
