PI-KEM Expands Battery Research Toolkit to Support Next-Generation Cell Development

PI-KEM Ltd has introduced a new range of battery materials and cell development solutions to support researchers and engineers working on advanced energy storage technologies.

As demand grows for higher performance, scalable, and alternative battery chemistries, the expanded portfolio provides practical tools for investigating cell behaviour, optimising formulations, and accelerating the transition from laboratory research to pilot-scale development.

New additions include:

  • Dry pouch cells in multiple chemistries and standard research sizes, enabling controlled studies of electrolyte behaviour and formation processes
  • Aluminium prismatic cases, available as pre-sealed display formats and unsealed housings for prototyping and experimental builds
  • Three high-purity sodium-ion cathode materials:
    • Na₂NiFeMnO₆
    • Na₃Fe₂(PO₄)₂P₂O₇ (NFPP)
    • Na₄₊ₓFe₃₋ᵧ(PO₄)₂P₂O₇ (tuneable NFPP composition

The addition of sodium-ion materials reflects increasing industry interest in cost-effective, sustainable chemistries for grid storage and large-scale energy applications.

The new range complements PI-KEM’s broader battery research offering, which supports lithium, sodium, and emerging chemistries, including:

  • Cathode and anode powders, binders, and separator films
  • Aluminium and copper current collector foils, including pre-coated options
  • Solid-state electrolytes for advanced cell architectures
  • Laboratory and pilot-line equipment for mixing, coating, calendaring, assembly, and cell characterisation

Designed for use across academic laboratories, start-ups, and pilot production environments, the portfolio enables teams to move efficiently from material evaluation to scale-up.
