Cookson Industrial supports ultra-bespoke automotive manufacturing with advanced precious metal additive manufacturing
Bentley Mulliner has unveiled an exceptional commission of the Bentley Batur featuring what Bentley describes as an automotive industry first: 3D printed, hallmarked 18-carat rose gold integrated into key interior touchpoints.
Working in collaboration with Cookson Industrial, Bentley produced a series of functional and aesthetic components in solid 18-carat rose gold – demonstrating how additive manufacturing and materials expertise can enable truly bespoke luxury design at ultra-low volume.
The result is a highly tactile, precision-finished set of interior controls that combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge manufacturing – and showcase how advanced materials can unlock entirely new possibilities in premium automotive, aerospace, luxury, and high-performance industrial applications.

A new standard for bespoke manufacturing
The Bentley Batur is a limited-run, coachbuilt grand touring coupé – restricted to just 18 examples, created through Bentley’s bespoke division, Mulliner. In one of the latest commissions, a customer selected rose gold as both a functional and design-defining feature for the cabin.
These components were manufactured using additive manufacturing (AM) from a sustainably sourced feedstock: The gold used is 100% recycled and then processed into a fine powder suitable for 3D printing.
Crucially, the finished pieces undergo hallmarking in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, providing verified authenticity and provenance – a rare combination of AM capability with certified material integrity.

What was produced
The gold components, totalling up to 210 grams of hallmarked 18-carat rose gold, were incorporated into Bentley’s “Black Rose” Batur commission, and include:
• Drive Mode Selector
• Organ Stop vent controls (a classic Bentley dashboard feature)
• Steering wheel insert marker
Together, these create tactile touchpoints that deliver both functional precision and striking visual impact.

Why this matters for advanced materials and industrial AM
This project is far more than a luxury aesthetic statement. It demonstrates that precious metals can move beyond jewellery and investment products into real industrial applications, where performance, traceability, and exacting tolerances are essential.
Cookson Industrial’s work in precious metal additive manufacturing shows how AM can deliver:
• Low-volume, high-complexity components
• Highly customised geometries without tooling
• Precision finished surfaces and fine detail
• Recycled feedstock pathways and improved sustainability
• Authenticity certification and regulated material compliance
• Reliable, repeatable manufacturing for demanding environments
In a world moving toward greater product personalisation and shorter innovation cycles, the ability to manufacture certified precious metal parts on demand opens new routes for advanced materials across multiple sectors.
Cookson Industrial: leaders in precious metals, manufacturing and advanced material solutions
Cookson Industrial brings together deep metallurgical heritage and modern manufacturing capability to support customers across the full material lifecycle – from alloy selection and powder development through to additive manufacturing, finishing, and certified quality.
While this project showcases ultra-bespoke automotive manufacturing, Cookson Industrial’s expertise supports a broad range of industries including:
• Aerospace and propulsion
• Automotive and motorsport
• Electronics and electrical contacts
• Medical and precision instrumentation
• Luxury and design-led engineering
• Advanced manufacturing R&D
